Just a few of photos from a Bees game we attended back in August.

I don't care if I never get back

We took Sara to her first baseball game on Monday night. It was so fun! We're lucky enough to have a minor league baseball team in our town, which means great baseball at an even greater price. To make it even better, Harmons (your neighborhood grocer) was sponsoring a "Family Night" on Monday, which means only $3 for tickets! And to top it off, the Bees had an amazing comeback from trailing 3-6 going into the bottom of the seventh to a 7-6 win over the Sacramento River Cats. Can't beat that! Good job Bees. Good job.

I haven't been to a ball game in a while. It brought back lots of memories of going to Dodger games as a kid. Good times.

Another great thing about minor league baseball is, there are no "nose bleeds". Even the cheap seats are great! Check out our awesome spot right along the first base line.

The stands weren't quite filled to capacity at our game (like they are in this photo), which was actually quite nice because it meant we could put our feet up on the seats in front of us. 

So how did Sara handle her first big sporting event? She loved it! She thought it was fun to watch the pitcher throw the ball. She enjoyed clapping with the audience when the Bees got a hit. She got to show off her groovy dance moves during the between innings music. She enjoyed the tasty dippin' dots ice cream we shared. But most of all, she loved the bee.

We pointed out Bumble (the official name of the Salt Lake Bees mascot) to Sara when we first saw him dancing on top of the first base dugout. After that, every time Sara saw him, she pointed and yelled, "The bee! The bee!" At one point he drove a four-wheeler across the field, and that just about put Sara over the edge. She loves cars. Now she loves Bumble. So what could be more exciting than the bee driving a car?! Nothing I tell you. Absolutely nothing.

It's all Sara could talk about for the rest of the evening. The whole way home all she kept saying was, "The bee! Car! The bee! Car!"

We all had a grand old time, despite not having any peanuts or cracker jacks.

a stone's throw

been watching a lot of this lately


If have no idea what is going on in that photo, then you are missing out on some high quality Olympic action! We're talking about CURLING folks. It's a crazy Olympic sport where teams of 4 take turns throwing (or pushing rather) large stones across the ice, while two teammates "sweep" out in front of the stone to help it "curl" in the direction they want, or to help it go straight. The point of the game is to get your stones into the target (aka "the house") at the other end of the ice, and to knock any of your opponent's stones out of the house. It may not seem as exciting as freestyle skiing or the luge, but it's one of our favorites. We like it because of the strategy and precision involved in play. And because, let's face it, it's kind of weird.

For some crazy reason, they don't seem to air it on regular NBC, only on CNBC or MSNBC, so if you don't have cable or satellite, you probably haven't seen any Olympic coverage of this fine pass-time.
