Sleepy Sara

I was looking through the photos on my phone the other day and realized the majority of the recent photos were of Sara asleep in random places. I already shared one of those photos with you earlier...

I guess this is a common problem among 2-year-olds though, because Rob's sister shared a blog post a few months back about the very same thing when their little girl was the same age as Sara is now. Oh the woes of being a toddler.

My sister had her baby one week ago, and I'm just now posting about it! I've been busy. You see, I flew down eight days ago thinking I would be coming to meet my new nephew, but he ended up being a week overdue, so my sister still hadn't had him by the time I got here. When I bought plane tickets I got them for 6 days after Laura's due date thinking she would have already had him by the time I arrived, but instead I was there for his birth, and was able to be one of Laura's "coaches" to help her through her natural no-drug delivery. She did amazing! 41 weeks of pregnancy + 47 hours of contractions + 1 hour of pushing = one beautiful baby boy!

Ok, enough talk. Look how cute he is!!

I'm catching my return flight back to Utah today. I'd be content to stay here a little longer though! I haven't had enough of that cute little newborn boy yet. Plus it's warm and green here, and the beach is only 15 minutes away. *sigh* Back to snow and cold for me. No fair.

I want Gabba?

Sara loves the television show Yo Gabba Gabba on Nick Jr. It's a little crazy, but educational and fun too. They always teach some kind of social, developmental, or emotional skill like sharing with friends, eating healthy foods, or keep trying/don't give up. I think the reason Sara loves it so much is because they do a lot of singing and dancing; two of Sara's favorite pass-times.

Anyway, I have been trying to find some Gabba toys for Sara, but it is nearly impossible to do so. It seems like nobody makes them anymore. I guess the show has passed its peak of popularity and therefore Gabba toys are no longer being mass-produced. I've had my eye on these cute little plush figures of all five of the characters...

...but the only places I can find them are on eBay or Amazon for ridiculously outrages prices. Can you believe people are trying to sell these for as much as $112 or $115?? Insanity I tell you.

Since I am not willing to drop $23 each on those cute little Gabba dolls, here is what we have come up with for a solution in the meantime.....

Lego Gabba Friends! Sara and I were playing with her Legos a while back when she asked me to make Foofa (the pink flower-headed character). Once I came up with something that slightly resembled her, she asked me to make all the other characters too! So now Sara has her own custom-made set of Gabba friends, and she loves them. She talks to them or has them talk to each other. They help her with things like cleaning up her other toys, brushing her teeth, or eating breakfast. She gives them goodnight kisses when it's time to go to bed. She asks for them randomly throughout the day and will say, "Foofa, where are you?!" when she is looking for them. All in all, I'd say these homemade Gabba pals are a real hit, and with a zero dollar price tag (since the Legos were a Christmas gift from Grandma), I'd say they really can't be beat.

If I do ever to want to buy official Yo Gabba Gabba merchandise, I might have to settle for these bath buddies or bath squirters which are both reasonably priced around $9. Now that I can handle.

However, if those adorable plush Gabba dolls ever come down in price (say to about $20 for the whole set!), you know I'll be the first in line to buy them.

Now that you all know of Sara's love for Gabba, here are some photos from the Yo Gabba Gabba themed birthday party we had for Sara's second birthday back in December. (I already posted these on Facebook, so if they look familiar, that is why!)

 A big shout-out to Rob and Angie (Rob's mom) for making the cupcakes. I just showed them what I wanted and let them go to it, and they turned out perfect! They were delicious too. :)

I think the drinks were my favorite part. We took Izze sparkling juice and added the Gabba character stickers. We got the images from the Nick Jr. website. I think they turned out so adorable! And Sara was asking for "Brobee juice" for several days afterward.

The kids did Gabba coloring pages when they arrived.

 

And measured their height on a Gabba growth chart. (Sara was the shortest, even though three of the kids who came are younger than her!)
